Sustainability

Strong communities depend on a healthy environment, and since 1900 Graniterock has prided itself on good stewardship of the land we call home.

At the Wilson Quarry, our operations run on 100% renewable energy, powered by two onsite solar arrays and a partnership with local energy provider, Central Coast Community Energy.

Each year, the Wilson Quarry receives approximately 120,000 tons of recycled construction material, diverting that material from local landfills and reusing it in recycled asphalt pavement, recycled baserock, and other construction material.

Our local production of construction materials also cuts the region’s reliance on imported aggregates, lowering environmental impact and transportation costs.

We ship nearly 1 million tons each year by rail, eliminating approximately 80,000 truck trips from our already congested roadways.

Our revegetation plan at the Wilson Quarry has successfully revegetated 21 acres with native grassland and oak woodland, with trees drawn from our native plant nursery in Aromas. In addition, in recent years, we’ve planted nearly 1,100 individual trees at eight different locations at the Wilson Quarry property.

In addition, Graniterock has proven success creating habitat after and alongside our aggregate operations. At our Quail Hollow Quarry in Felton, we dedicated 110 acres of sandhill habitat to provide long-term conservation and protection of native, endemic species. At the Santa Cruz Sand Plant, we set aside over 10 acres to permanently protect habitat for the California Red-Legged Frog.
